What we're going to do at this site is build an example IT infrastructure for a small-to-midsized company, from the ground up, step by step. This won't be a paper tiger exercise; we're going to actually build out this environment in a virtual lab. We're going to explain and document every step we take, with copious screenshots and/or video, and plenty of links to best-practice documents.
We'll explain not only how to build all the elements, but why we make the choices we do. We'll show you some of the tips and tricks we've learned in our own travels, and we'll share new things we learn. Once we've built our virtual infrastructure, we'll operate and update it as if it were a live business, again showing what we do, each step of the way. We'll add new technologies, as a growing company would.
We will welcome your questions, comments, suggestions, and criticisms, as long as they are civil in tone. Good suggestions will be incorporated into our virtual infrastructure. Our goal is to create a cookbook for the modern SME (small or midsize enterprise) sysadmin. We hope you'll join us in the kitchen!
The cookbook is our main information repository; you can read it sequentially or browse to whatever you need to know right now. We've also got blog content with our more fleeting thoughts and tips.
Although there's a login link, there's no real need to create a login to the site; in fact much of the site is designed to look better if you don't login (sidebars are distracting). But we welcome you either way, logged in or not.
